With the continued growth of the Academy Trust, Summerdown School experienced a significant rise in staffing numbers across key operational departments, particularly Human Resources and Finance. The existing administrative facilities were no longer capable of accommodating this increased demand, creating operational constraints that impacted the school’s overall efficiency.
The Trust urgently required a new, dedicated administrative block to support its ongoing expansion. However, the school campus was already fully developed. The only available vacant area was located at the rear of the site, comprising soft landscaping adjacent to a hardstanding outdoor play area. The project needed to be delivered rapidly and with minimal disruption to the live educational environment, while also ensuring no loss of existing sports facilities, parking provision, or essential student play space.
The Solution
A Bespoke-Built Modular Building with Glass Partitioning
MPH Building Systems proposed a high-quality modular building solution tailored perfectly to the site’s strict spatial and aesthetic requirements.
To ensure spatial coherence and visual harmony with the campus, the modular unit was clad in a traditional brick skin, seamlessly matching the recently constructed, traditionally built main school. The building was carefully sited at the rear of the campus to maintain close proximity to the main entrance and existing admin areas, while avoiding any impact on neighbouring properties, established trees, and natural light or ventilation for existing buildings.

Glass Partitioning: A central glass-partitioned office with frosted safety manifestation, offering acoustic privacy for sensitive HR/Finance meetings while allowing natural light to flow through the open-plan space.
Modern Finishes: Durable grey carpet tiled flooring, crisp white walls, and a suspended ceiling grid with energy-efficient LED panel lighting.
Staff Facilities: A built-in kitchenette area featuring a sink, modern white worktops, and wood-finish cabinetry to support staff welfare.
