Project Description
Prefabricated Modular Cabin Building For Recycling And Waste Centre
Modular cabin buildings are ideal for fixed or temporary units for recycling centres due to their adaptability and portability. They can be customised for any space with anti-graffiti exteriors, like this project for Poole Recycling.
Modular buildings present an innovative and efficient solution for recycling centres, delivering versatile spaces tailored to meet diverse operational needs. These structures can be customised to include inviting offices, comfortable break areas, ample storage, and dedicated zones for hazardous waste or materials recovery. Remarkably, their construction is often quicker and less disruptive compared to traditional buildings. Furthermore, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, these modular designs not only incorporate recycled materials but also offer the flexibility to adapt to future demands, making them a smart and eco-friendly choice.
Project Overview And Design: Poole Recycling Centre
Modular Cabin Building For Local Authority Office Waste Management and Recycling Services
The Poole Recycling Centre required a modern, durable, and functional solution for its staff facilities.
A new building was needed to provide a comfortable and efficient working environment, but operations had to continue running. The Poole local authority recycling centre’s new building was to provide additional office space, staff facilities, and to accommodate increased capacity during peak times. The new prefabricated buildings were designed to provide an immediate, flexible, cost-effective, and sustainable solution for expansion, as well as support ongoing maintenance and the adaptation of recycling facilities.
- Exterior: Highly visible blue exterior with anti-graffiti and stain-resistant finish.
- Health and Safety Features: handrails, non-slip flooring, proper fire safety systems and impact protection for staff and visitors.
Project Challenges
Access And Installation On A Busy Hazardous Site
The solution was for a structure that could be manufactured off-site in our controlled manufacturing environment, which could then be transported to the recycling plant. By utilising off-site construction methods, MPH was able to ensure a high-quality finish in a controlled environment while significantly reducing the construction time on the client’s site.
The modular unit was constructed in MPH’s controlled factory environment, which allowed for precise quality control and adherence to a strict timeline.
Offsite construction would minimise disruption at the busy waste plant, allowing for rapid and efficient installation. The building would be manufactured in modules to include a range of amenities. The modular unit was designed to be a self-contained staff welfare facility, built to a high standard of specification. The design included:
- A dedicated staff office area
- A spacious staff kitchen and seating area
- Internal hall space with durable, low-maintenance flooring
- A shower room and separate WC facilities
Following the recycling centre’s cabin manufacture off-site, it was scheduled for a fast-track installation during off-peak hours. This minimised risk and disruption to the recycling plant and staff.
Installation And Outcome
Local Authority Welfare Cabin Building
The off-site manufacturing process meant that the new welfare cabin building unit arrived on-site fully fitted out, ready for a swift installation by MPH’s experienced installation team at the Poole Recycling Centre. The pre-manufactured unit was craned into position and connected to the necessary utilities. This process was completed with minimal disruption to the recycling centre’s daily operations, a critical factor for the client. The installation included a ramp and railings for accessibility.
