Project Description

MPH Building Systems built and installed a new modular nursery building for Peakirk Cum Glinton Primary School in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. The school was looking to offer pre-school facilities and an out-of-school club. The modern, creative space was constructed off-site and installed within the 6-week summer holidays.

Modular Nursery Building For Pre School Pupils

Peakirk Cum Glinton Primary required a stimulating environment for children of all ages, set in an additional nursery building – they chose a modular nursery building. This modular nursery now supports parents in this rural Cambridgeshire village by offering a pre-school and after-school club.

The appearance needed to complement the local area and the existing school buildings, so we worked with local architects from the design stage.

A Sympathetically Designed Pre School Modular Building

Using modular building methods, we took advantage of a range of materials to suit the project. And to meet planning regulations, the exterior of the building was clad in locally sourced limestone. Also, we designed the brickwork to match the existing school buildings, and timber was used for the facias and decking areas to soften the appearance. Furthermore, we finished the decking with an anti-slip coating that links the internal and external spaces beautifully.

We designed the interior of the modular nursery building to suit its function – to be a stimulating learning environment. For instance, large aluminium-framed windows and doors allow for plenty of natural light, and we used bright colours throughout. Finished with different coloured vinyl and carpets, this separated the various play zones; the building has the main activity area and a wet play area and kitchen.

We selected all of the materials for safety and durability, perfect for pre-school children.

A Pre School Extension Delivered During School Holidays

As with many modular construction projects, timescales were critical to Peakirk Cum Glinton Primary School. Therefore we completed the majority of the work off-site in advance. This allowed us to install the new modular nursery building during the 6-week summer holidays. Something ideal for many schools as the health and safety risks, and disruptions to teaching, is kept to a minimum.

When the children returned to school in September, they had a state-of-the-art pre-school building to be proud of.

To ensure the highest-quality workmanship and industry-approved health and safety standards, we have MPBA and CHAS accreditation. Please find out more about the work we have done with other schools and nurseries here.

“It was clear through our tender process that MPH would be the right partner to work with on our recent construction projects. They worked closely with us to revise our plans to suit the budget and timescale, and came up with the perfect solution all round. The planning and execution was great, with timely updates throughout what was a short programme. We developed an excellent working relationship with all involved, and MPH delivered exactly what they said they would, at the times they said they would. Teaching rooms were ready to use on the first day of term, the product is great, and the spaces still look as good as new, even after months of use. Thank you MPH!”
