Project Description
The brief was that Limehurst Academy required more teaching space to meet the needs of an expanding school.
Under a challenging programme, the facility had to be completed and ready for a grand opening day, introducing the building to the new student intake, before the school closed for summer.
MPH Building Systems were appointed to provide a full turnkey package for the supply, delivery and installation of a bespoke 2 storey teaching block. Modules were delivered over a weekend to minimise disruption to the school and the project was completed in just 12 weeks from site possession to hand over.
The external design had to meet strict planning conditions to blend in with surrounding existing buildings and curtain glazing was installed to mark the main entrance to the corner of the SW & SE elevations. The large expanse of glazing allows the lobby and staircase to be bathed in natural light during the day, while at night, allows light to emit from within. A traditional brick skin was constructed externally incorporating feature render panels and aluminium windows with MPH Building Systems demonstrating once again the flexibility of modular construction combining a fast track off site solution with traditional building techniques on site.
The 820m2 facility included general teaching spaces that could be adapted to large open plan exam areas with the inclusion of sound insulated folding partitions. To further enhance the teaching spaces, specialist teaching walls were introduced with storage and sliding doors opening up to state of the art interactive white boards. The brief also included a science room and prep room with gas safety systems . Other ancillary areas included spaces for male and female toilets, staff rooms, reception office and individual group rooms.
