Project Description

We completed a sizeable new school building for The Market Bosworth School in Leicestershire, including classrooms, offices, wash facilities and vast open-plan space under one roof.

The school’s brief was for MPH Buildings Systems Ltd to provide additional classroom accommodation, more office space and a new extensive open plan hall. The new school building also required washroom facilities, complete with plumbing, data networking and electrics. Our turnkey solution was to design, manufacture, and install a cost-effective multi-storey modular school building to deliver these additional spaces.

The Client’s Brief

There were many hurdles to overcome due to Covid. For example, a shortage of raw materials, workforce on site and in the production factory were affected, as well as adverse weather conditions to contend with. However, the job stayed on track through it all. There was a high standard of work maintained throughout ,and any challenges were addressed promptly.

I can highly recommend MPH buildings, they provide the personal touch that is missing from most!

DESIGN STRATEGY

The Market Bosworth School had a specific brief for their new multi-use modular building – it had to match sympathetically to the rest of their site while including a combination of classrooms, offices and assembly areas under one roof. Here are some of the challenges and requirement issues we faced and overcame.

ISSUE: The new school building had to encompass classrooms, staff areas, washroom facilities and a large open plan hall across a floor area of 600m2.

SOLUTION: Their requirements for mixed classroom, office and assembly areas meant that only a more extensive, double-storey new building was suitable.

ISSUE: The school wished the new building was in uniform with their school and matched the existing site with red brick and contrasting cladding.

SOLUTION: We specifically selected materials, so the building sat within the context of the existing school harmoniously – this included brickwork to the ground floor with contrasting cladding on the first floor.

ISSUE: Timescale – the project had to be completed in minimal time with minimal disruption to the school and teaching.

SOLUTION: The custom-made modular building was pre-built off-site and scheduled for installation and finishing at optimum times. Not only did this enable a 10-week site programme, but it ensured classes and pupils were not disturbed and health and safety were optimised onsite.

ISSUE: Since the new building would contain many pupils and staff, easily accessible washroom facilities were required for hygiene and convenience.

SOLUTION: Our bespoke modular design was constructed to include toilet facilities and wash areas for both pupils and staff. Inclusive of all plumbing and final fittings, we completed a unisex accessible single WC for staff and  a larger toilet cubicles area for pupils.
