Extending and Refurbishing a Modular School Building
MPH Building Systems have recently completed the extension and refurbishment of an existing modular classroom.
The school was growing from a one-form to a two-form entry school and one effective way of gaining additional classroom space was remodelling and extending the existing modular classroom.
MPH Building Systems demonstrated the flexibility of modular buildings and that they are structurally suited to adaptation. This loose fit approach means a modular building over its life time can be remodelled to suit the changing needs of the occupants or building use.
Full remodelling of the internal layout was carried out including modifications to the Mechanical and Electrical Installation. A 6 bay extension was manufactured to match the existing modular and craned into position during the school summer shutdown.
The school wrote:
“MPH have worked tirelessly to restructure existing walls and this has generated more space. The additional modules that have been added to the existing unit have been instantly effective in ensuring we have extra classrooms within our growing school. The two extra classrooms were installed during the summer holidays and were ready to use by the start of term. There were no delays for the start of term and I am personally really grateful that our children had new spacious, light and clean rooms on their return to school”.
Planning conditions dictated that the build needed to be of traditional appearance to match existing school buildings. MPH further demonstrated the flexibility of modular construction installing an insulated brick cladding system.
