When St Mary’s Hospital prescribed the need for a peaceful, calming environment to operate as a refuge for doctors on call, MPH initiated a rapid response in the shape of a bespoke modular building solution
The hospital had recently undergone a major facelift and with the new Island Doctors on Call unit due to be sited adjacent to the main entrance, it was essential for the appearance of the proposed building to dovetail with the existing architecture.
MPH carried out a full examination of the designated location to assess the client requirements and create a design to compliment the new-look hospital. Following the site survey, a sympathetic proposal was submitted and the plans were approved for production.
With the new building destined for export from MPH headquarters, critical dimensions in transporting to site took precedence when preparing the units for manufacture. As the units needed to be shipped onto the island, the design team had to make adequate provision for height restrictions on the ferry and access requirements at the terminal.
Integrating sensitively within its new surroundings, the completion of the purpose-built IDOC unit represented the end of another successful operation for MPH. Finished to an exceptionally high standard, design features included a fully fitted kitchen, plasma screen television, wallpaper finish to the walls and mood lighting throughout.
