How are modular buildings manufactured?
Modular construction is set apart from other building methods as the modules are constructed off site, whereas a traditional building project involves far more intensive on site presence, work, traffic and noise.
Modular Building Design
Each project starts with a requirement or idea from a client, we’ll take your specific needs and translate these into a design that matches your goals and blends into the environment it will be installed in. Our experience of modular buildings means we understand what works and what doesn’t and where the strengths of the volumetric method lie. Our knowledge of aesthetic design, energy saving technology and building materials is at the forefront of the industry.
When a brief has been established from the initial concept, our dedicated design team draw up detailed modular building plans based on the information provided. We commission in depth detailed site surveys where necessary, to determine what access requirements the site has etc. All design proposals are subject to local authority planning permission.
Off-Site Modular Building Production
Producing our modular buildings off-site in our purpose-built factory means that volumetric construction projects have the upper hand compared to traditional building methods. As most of the process is undertaken in a factory environment, efficiency. Materials costs are reduced and waste reduced. Assembly line production means that dedicated specialists work on specific areas of each build.
A factory setting means that usually, there are multiple projects underway at once, which allows for any excess materials to be reused. A more traditional building method often sees leftover materials discarded.
Groundwork Preparation & Prefabricated Modular Construction
Groundworks on-site take place while we manufacture your modular project off-site. So when it comes to assembling the modular building, the location is ready. Internal fixtures and fittings are added off-site to your specification, meaning that the building is prepared to use after construction, and all utilities are connected.
Once we have fabricated the modules and groundworks are complete, we transport the sections to your site. Next, we erect the units with a crane. Once all modules are in place, we connect your power and utilities. We will hand over the building once we have gone through your induction process on using the module.
What are modular buildings made from?
There are two common types of frames used in modular construction. Traditional methods tend to focus on bricks and mortar, whereas modular wooden frame construction is used with either lumber or steel and concrete – depending on the purpose of the project.
Once this process has been completed, the interior and exterior can be chosen to fit the purpose of the building and to fit in with existing buildings on site.
Can we help you with your modular construction?
If you have a need for additional space, whether that is for a classroom, medical facility or commercial use MPH building systems can tailor a building to your needs. The flexibility of modular construction means that we can offer new buildings to buy, repurposed buildings to suit or we can offer hire for a long or short term period.
