Established as the leading health and safety pre-qualification assessment scheme in the UK, CHAS is a national database that serves to complete the initial application process for buyers. As a CHAS accredited supplier, we undergo an annual detailed assessment to demonstrate health and safety competence to meet national standards of compliance; the threshold standard or core criteria, as detailed in the CDM (Construction Design & Management) regulations. The CDM Regulations establish a framework for managing the health and safety aspects of construction projects throughout the design and construction phases.
CHAS are also founder members of the SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement).
SSIP is an umbrella organisation intended to facilitate mutual recognition between health and safety pre-qualification schemes, reducing duplication and beaurocracy at procurement Stage 1 (prequalification) and promoting a single standard of health and safety assessment. Approved by the HSE (Health and Safety Executive), a supplier who is registered or accredited as compliant or approved with an SSIP member has been assessed to the benchmark standard, CDM 2007 core criteria (stage 1). Once a supplier’s status is verified, the buyer is able to focus solely on the project or job specific assessment (stage 2).
Working closely with our independent specialist Health & Safety consultant, we regularly review and update our policies in order to comply with regulations and appraise our training matrix on an ongoing basis.
